Event Details

Join the Emerge Broward Engage Committee for a morning of volunteering with Broward County Animal Care and help make a difference for local shelter pets! Volunteers will assist with activities based on the shelter’s needs that day, which may include creating enrichment activities for dogs and cats, socializing with shelter animals, dog walking or bathing, cleaning and organizing shelter areas, or helping maintain outdoor sensory trails.

Volunteer Limit: 15 participants

Space is limited to 15 volunteers due to ongoing construction at the shelter, so advance registration is required.

Required Before the Event

All registered volunteers must complete the following requirements before attending:

Additional reference videos will be shared with registered volunteers to help prepare for possible kennel-cleaning activities.

What to Wear & Bring

Please wear comfortable clothing appropriate for outdoor and shelter work. The shelter’s dress code is strictly enforced.

  • Sneakers or rain boots, preferably water- or slip-resistant

  • No Crocs, sandals, or slides

  • Shorts must be knee-length

  • No crop tops

  • Sunscreen and UV-protective clothing are recommended

  • Bring a reusable water bottle

Important Information

Volunteer assignments will be determined by Broward County Animal Care based on the shelter’s needs that day. Some activities involving dogs, including dog walking and bathing, are subject to staff availability. 

Peanut butter is frequently used for animal enrichment activities. Please let us know in advance if you have a peanut allergy so the shelter can plan accordingly.

Volunteer Parking

Volunteers should park at Boater’s Park, located on the west side of the adoption lobby. A gated pathway connects Boater’s Park to the shelter. Please do not park in the Admissions lot.

Optional Donations

Volunteers are welcome to bring supplies to support the shelter’s enrichment activities. Helpful donations include plain applesauce, plain Greek yogurt, fresh or frozen fruit, cream cheese, string cheese, Easy Cheese, Goldfish crackers, dog or cat treats, paper towel rolls, empty egg cartons, tissue or cereal boxes, cardboard trays, and paper bags.

Please do not bring food containing added sugar, artificial sweeteners, or xylitol, or any rawhide treats.
