Emerge Broward is thrilled to announce our 2026 Board Engagement Program participants

Our young professionals are taking the opportunity to shape the direction of mission-driven organizations, represent the voices of emerging leaders, and grow a network rooted in service and purpose. It’s a powerful stepping stone for young professionals committed to making a change in Broward County and beyond.

Support has been provided by the Mary and Alex Mackenzie Community Impact Fund at the Community Foundation of Broward

For Emerge Broward Members:

Ready to lead beyond Emerge Broward? Emerge Broward is built on member leadership. Board Engagement is the pinnacle, where the most engaged members take their service to the next level.

Through our Board Engagement Program, you will have the opportunity to be matched with a nonprofit board. You’ll gain real governance experience, a powerful network, and the chance to lead meaningful change in your community.

Selected EB members gain hands-on governance training and are matched with a local nonprofit board to serve a full annual term, a career-defining opportunity.

What you'll gain

More than a title. Real leadership experience.

Board engagement is a career accelerator. Here's what participants walk away with.

  1. Community Impact You Can See

Serve a full annual term on a local nonprofit board that fills a need in our community that you are passionate about.

  1. Real Board Experience

You won't just talk about making a difference, you'll attend the board meetings, vote on decisions, and drive the nonprofit’s mission forward.

  1. Expand Your Network

Connect deeply with nonprofit leaders, fellow EB participants, and community influencers across Broward County who share your commitment to impact.

  1. Earn Résumé-Ready Credentials

Board service is one of the most respected credentials for mid-career professionals because it shows leadership in action.

  1. Leadership Role at Every Level

Board Engagement participants will be selected through an application process. Any Emerge Broward member is eligible to apply. The most qualified candidates are members who have actively taken part in Emerge Broward activities and demonstrate an interest in learning what it’s like to serve on a nonprofit board.

Successful completion of the Board Engagement training workshops is required to be placed on a board.

  • Attend all Board Engagement training workshops
  • Meet nonprofits at the annual Nonprofit Matching Fair
  • Remain an active Emerge Broward member in good standing

Please note: A board match is not guaranteed. Additionally, each nonprofit organization has its own internal approval process.

For Nonprofit Organizations:

Ready to expand your board? We are happy to extend the opportunity for your nonprofit organization to apply to participate in the next iteration of the Board Engagement program.

Board Engagement participants are vetted, trained, and mission driven. Year after year, they bring fresh energy, new perspectives, and professional expertise to dozens of nonprofits in Broward County.

Why get involved?

  • Access to trained, motivated young board members
  • Candidates vetted for professional skills and commitment
  • Support in building a board that represents the communities you serve
  • Ongoing connection to the Emerge Broward network

The matching process heavily considers your need to diversify your board. Whether its attracting younger board members who bring fresh ideas, have specific professional skill sets, come from diverse ethnic backgrounds, or all three – the Board Engagement Program will help you cultivate a board that's truly representative of the communities you serve.
