🎃 What You'll Be Doing: Volunteers will help with setup, staff the activity stations, and assist with breakdown at the end of the party.

🎭 Costume Policy: Costumes are welcome, please just keep them kid-friendly. If you'd rather not dress up, wearing black or orange is a great alternative.

Please Note: A volunteer waiver will be sent to registered members at least one week before the event.

Event Description:

Join Emerge Broward for a Halloween afternoon with the children of Kids In Distress at their Southwest Ranches campus for an afternoon of face painting, trick-or-treating, and photo booth Polaroids for kids in foster care.

EB members will arrive early to help with setup, then spend the party staffing activity stations alongside the kids before helping break everything down at the end. Planned activities include:

• Face painting
• Spooky drinks
• Polaroid pictures at a photo booth with personalized frames
• A trunk-or-treat / trick-or-treat path
• Arts and crafts

We'll also be celebrating the children with October birthdays, so there's a little extra to make special that day.

We're partnering with the teens from Kids Helping Kids (KHK), who are providing the food, games, arts and crafts supplies, and other materials for the day. They're excited to work alongside young professionals who share their commitment to serving the community, making this as much a cross-generational collaboration as it is a volunteer event.

For children navigating the foster care system, a Halloween party thrown by people who showed up just for them is the kind of memory that sticks.

🍬 Optional: Bring a Treat

There is absolutely no pressure to purchase anything — your time is the contribution that matters. That said, if you'd like to bring something along, the following are always helpful and will go directly into the children's trick-or-treat bags:

• Bags of individually wrapped candy
• Small toys
• Packaged snacks
• Other pre-packaged treats

About Kids In Distress (KID):

Founded in 1976 by community volunteers and the Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale, Kids In Distress, Inc. is a nationally accredited 501(c)3 dedicated to preventing child abuse, preserving families, and treating children who have been abused and neglected. Over nearly five decades, KID has grown from a single emergency shelter into South Florida's largest continuum of care for at-risk children and families, serving more than 20,000 children to date.

Today, KID operates a five-acre main campus in Fort Lauderdale and a four-acre campus in Southwest Ranches featuring two family foster group homes, where this event will be held. Their services span foster care and adoption, therapeutic preschool and aftercare programs, family counseling, and pediatric mental and physical health care. KID is the largest foster care provider in both Broward and Palm Beach counties.

About Kids Helping Kids (KHK):

Kids Helping Kids, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit built around a simple idea: young people can make an enormous difference in the life of another kid. KHK encourages and facilitates teen-led, cause-related projects and events throughout the community. For this event, their teens are providing the food, games, arts and crafts supplies, and other materials while working alongside our members.

The organization was founded in 1998 by Mischa Zimmermann, who started KHK as a teenager while battling a malignant brain tumor. Its programs fund mobility equipment, teen lounges in hospitals, and support for kids transitioning back into their communities after a life-altering illness or injury.
