Board Engagement is a unique program designed to provide Emerge Broward members with leadership and involvement opportunities and educate them on the structure, operation, scope and impact of non-profit organizations, while at the same time exposing non-profits to the benfits of having a young profession on their Board of Directors. To date, more than 40 non-profit organizations throughout Broward County have benefitted from the program!
The program selects Emerge Broward members who have demonstrated community involvement and leadership experience and trains them on the basics of non-profit governance and the role of an active and engaged board member. Non-profit organizations are then invited to apply to the program and participate in a multi-tiered selection process designed to find a young professional with a passion for their mission, who at the same time best meets the current needs of their board.
During their year-long term of service, Board Engagement participants also have access to support and mentoring as well as quarterly meetings and socials through which they share their experiences, challenges and successes with fellow Emerge Broward members.
A special thanks to Gail S. Meltzer, CFRE, and Terrie Temkin, Ph.D, of CoreStrategies for Nonprofits, Inc. for donating their services and facilitating comprehensive training sessions for this year’s Board Engagement participants!
The Board Engagement application process is currently closed and will re-open in January 2011. For more information on the Board Engagement program, contact co-chair Christi Rice at (954) 396-3030 ext. 215 or christi@habitatbroward.org.
