Board Engagement is a signature program of Emerge Broward that provides insight and experience in nonprofit board service. Open only to Emerge Broward members, the purpose of the Board Engagement program is to provide community-minded young professionals the opportunity to serve on a local nonprofit Board of Directors.
As part of the program, selected participants will receive training regarding the role of a board member, the basics of nonprofit governance, and best practices in board service. We are very excited to partner with the National Leadership Institute, whose experienced instructors will provide this training. Additionally, participants will be matched with a local nonprofit Board of Directors and serve an annual term as a board member.
Board Engagement participants will be selected through an application process. Any Emerge Broward member is eligible to apply. The most qualified candidates are members who have actively taken part in Emerge Broward activities and exhibit an interest in learning what it’s like to serve on a nonprofit board. The cost to participate in the Board Engagement program is $50, due upon selection.

"Indeed, it was an Emerge Broward participant that changed the way Broward Partnership advanced its mission. At first, the participant was reticent to share his thoughts among the distinguished members at the table. A few months later, the Board of Directors was entertaining several different project models when the Emerge member asked to speak. In less than ten minutes, he had turned the project models upside down by using his enthusiasm, his youth and his natural affinity for all things social media to provide a vision that we otherwise would not have seen. Emerge Broward is a talented group of professionals who want to invest in their community. It’s their future and they want to build it. It was so rewarding to watch it happen in real time."
